It can be a nightmare to discover a tare in one of your much loved fabric furniture items and leaves many feeling that they will have to throw the piece away. This in most instances is not the case as fabric furniture can easily be repaired. Repairing your furniture also offers significant benefits in terms of cost savings. Repairs can also prolong the life of your furniture.

Before you can begin repairing your fabric furniture you must assess the damage. You will need to consider how big the tare is and what materials you might need. Most importantly you will need a sewing needle and thread. The thread should match the colour or pattern of the furniture. You might also want to consider making initial light repairs if a spillage or stain surrounds the tare area.

Repairing small tears are usually pretty straight forward as they require stitching however care should be given the distance between each stitch. To help maintain the integrity of the material for time to come the stitching loops should be close together and taught. This will make it difficult for the tare to increase in size.

If you working with tares on corners then you may want to consider using upholstery tacks. Although the method above will fix the tare it won’t improve the appearance of your furniture. If the location of the tare is found on a cushion then you can simply turn it over or if it’s on the side of a furniture piece like a sofa then you might want to consider using a throw. These are of course far from perfect solutions but you could consider making use of a fabric furniture repair company. These will transform the appearance of your furniture altogether and bring them back to life.
